Svetlozar Savov : I do not give up easily !!!

It’s an extraordinary honour for me to be able to do an interview with this man…FOR YOU Svetlozar Savov !!
Hello Svetlozar and thank you very much for your time.
How old were you when you first started training martial arts?
I was 20 years old when I started training MMA. Now I’m 29.
What excited you about martial arts?
It’s a sport, in which you rely on yourself only and everything is in your hands.
Why exactly did you choose MMA ?
When I was in school I was training wrestling. I started boxing when I graduated from high school and that led me to continue with MMA.
How old were you when you first stepped in the ring?
I was 21 when I stepped for the first time on the ring. This was my first win and maybe that stimulated me to continue competing.
You are an inspiration to many young people only starting out in MMA. What’s your advice to all young fighters?
My advice to all young fighters is to be purposeful and to follow their goals until they achieve them. If they don’t give up and give 100% of themselves at workouts, soon or later their labor will be rawarded.

Which is the victory in your career that you treasure the most?
I think it is my win over Boyan Velichkovich. He is a good fighter and he already had several fights in the biggest organization – UFC. He’s performing really well in the moment
You fought in many big organizations. Where did you feel the best?
I’ve fought in many different organizations, but in WFC I definitely feel just like home. Maybe that’s because I’ve started my career from there and one of my most serious fights were there.
You have an impressive score. Do you look for a particular rematch?
Yes, I’m looking for a rematch with Antony Shmelevski. That’s the fight, when I lost from a head shot in one of the biggest organizations in Europe – KSW. For me this is injustice and I definitely want a rematch of this fight.
In your opinion, what’s the secret of success in martial arts?
There is no secret. Simply, extreme perseverance and purposefulness are needed. And as I said, one day your labor will be rewarded.

Many people think that martial arts are not a sport at all, but just violence. What is your message to those people?
This is a sport, as every other one. If it wasn’t a sport, there would be no rules. People, who are not into martial arts usually don’t like them. The truth is that not everything is hits and kicks, as it looks sidewards. In professional MMA there is a strategy, a plan for the fight, you must think about every step and be complex. Every single part of this creates the path to victory.
Bulgaria has many excellent fighters competing in some of the best organisations. What are the reasons behind this?
Maybe the reason is that Bulgarian spirit is strong and we do not give up easily when an obstacle comes. We are striving and defend our interest, we are searching for the win until the end.
Describe yourself in three words ?
A loyal persistent bulgarian

What your opinion on referee trickeries and manipulations?
There is no opinion for such “people”. In this way they just kill the desire and development of many young talented fighters, who give their hearts on the ring.
Which fight do you remember best?
Maybe that’s my fight with Yushin Okami. I lost then, but he is one of the best fighters in the world. Back in the days, we were just on different levels, but besides that, I think I showed myself worthy.
What is your life motto?
“I can.”
What are your goals and wishes?
My wish is just to be healthy, and my goal is to develop in sports and to reach more victories.
Did you satisfied with your fight in WFC last week ?
Yes, I am satisfied. I can always want more of myself, but the most important is that I won and I took the victory I came for in Ljubliana.

Do you have some more fights in future?
I have some offers from eminent organizations inside and outside of Europe. But, at this moment think of having a 2- 3 month break and then I’ll decide which path I will take.
You performed few times Ljubljana, . What memories do you have of our capital city and it’s audience?
Ljubliana is an amazingly beautiful city with great friendly people and every time I visit it, I get more and more sure in this opinion of mine.
How do you recharge your batteries?
I recharge my batteries when I travel to different places with my close ones.
What’s your opinion on the use of prohibited substances in sports?
These days one of the best athletes get caught with forbidden substances. The truth is, that if you want to keep a top shape and to be one of the best, you must workout extremely much, and for that you need a lot of supplements and vitamins for the recovery.
Of course, those things are not forbidden and exactly that’s why I think it is possible to be the best even without using forbidden substances.
If you look back, would you change anything or decide otherwise?
No. I think what happened in the past should have happened just the way it did, so it could make me the person I am today.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I don’t know. This is God’s work. I guess I’ll be the happiest dad in the world with the best woman by my side and, if I don’t have serious traumas – why not – one of the best fighters in my category.

What kind of a man is Svetlozar in private?
Svetlozar is a completely normal and down to earth man, as every other person in this world.
The only difference between me and some people is maybe that I am persistent and do not give up easily. That builds me as the person I am today.
You travel a lot. Do you have any anecdotes from the road you’d wish to share with us?
Once, when flying back from Austria, there was an awful turbulence. I was really scared, because it happened to me for the first time. But, when I saw how the girl next to me screamed and literally went under her seat, I somehow felt calmer after realizing that people are even more scared than me.
What do you do in your free time?
I spend my free time with my close ones. I also drive a motorbike – this is something that raises my adrenaline and calms me at the same time.

What is your favourite food ?
I adore rice. And sweets, of course. As bad as the last one sounds, I can’t live without it.
Perhaps a message for our readers in Slovenia?
I wish every reader and fan of martial arts to be healthy and keep on supporting us fighters in our next fights. Because their support means extremely much and it is definitely important for us!

Thank you for your time and all the best in career !!
